July 27th, 2020 - Congratulations to Dr. Naba and team for their latest publication "Pan-Cancer Analysis of the Genomic Alterations and Mutations of the Matrisome" in Cancers. In this study, Dr Naba and her team interrogated The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to evaluate the extent and frequency of copy number alterations and mutations in matrisome genes and their possible roles on gene expression, protein functions, and patient survival.Read the full article. June 24th, 2020 - Congratulations to Dr. Jiang and her team for their latest publication “Dynamic control of adipose tissue development and adult tissue homeostasis by platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha” in eLife. The nature of adipose stem cells are still elusive. This work provides insights that developmental and adult adipocytes are not born equally and they utilize different regulatory mechanisms for adipose lineage commitment.. Read the full article here.

June 1st, 2020 - Work derived from the thesis project of Bertha Vandegrift (advisor: Mark Brodie) published in the Journal of Neuroscience indicates a link between fluctuating estrogen levels and alteration of the rewarding action of alcohol. Amy Lasek (Bertha’s co-mentor) of Psychiatry is the primary author of this landmark study. Read the full article here.

May 21st, 2020 - Congratulations to Fred Lee, MSTP student, and to Alexandra Naba for their latest review entitled "Spatial-omics: Novel Approaches to Probe Cell Heterogeneity and ECM Biology" published in Matrix Biology. This review, written in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Tom Barker (University of Virginia), provides an overview of novel methods for spatial transcriptomics and proteomics and further describe recent studies that have applied such methods to advance our understanding of ECM and fibroblast biology. Read the full articles Potential depression and antidepressant-response biomarkers in human lymphoblast cell lines from treatment-responsive and treatment-resistant subjects: roles of SSRIs and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. and Membrane-associated α-tubulin is less acetylated in postmortem prefrontal cortex from depressed subjects relative to controls: cytoskeletal dynamics, HDAC6 and depression.

April 27th, 2020 - Congratulations to the our own Alexandra Naba for her latest publication entitled "The liver matrisome: Looking beyond collagens" in JHep Reports. This review, written in collaboration with Dr. Gavin Arteel (University of Pittsburgh), discusses the current state of knowledge of the hepatic ECM in liver diseases (including fibrosis, cirrhosis, and cancers) and liver regeneration, and new -omic approaches recently developed to study this compartment. April 13th, 2020 - Clarissa Gomez, rising sophomore and undergraduate research assistant in the Naba lab, was selected to participate in the 2020 Summer Research Opportunity Program organized by the Graduate College. Clarissa's project will focus on studying the role the extracellular matrix in disease using proteomics and computational biology. More information about this exciting program can be found here. February 13th, 2020 - Congratulations to our trainees for recognition at the COM Research Forum. Marah Armouti from the Stocco lab was selected as the winner for the CCTS Multi-Disciplinary Science Award, as well as an Honorable Mention in the Graduate, MD-PhD poster category. Monika Halas from the Solaro lab was selected for Silver Medal Honors in the Postdoctoral Fellows poster category.

January 9th, 2020 - Congratulations to Dr. Paola Rosas, Research Assistant Professor who was selected to receive the 2019 Young Author Achievement Award by the Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC) Basic to Translational Research. This award was specifically relater to her manuscript Cardiac Myosin Binding Protein-C Phosphorylation Mitigates Age-Related Cardiac Dysfunction - Hope for Better Aging?, which was published in the November 2019 issue of JACC Basic to Translational Science. Dr. Rosas and her mentor, Dr. John Solaro, will be recognized at the 2020 JACC Scientific Sessions in Chicago.
